beating the heat

another haircut

Olive kept telling Stacey to "cut it shorter, cut it shorter." I had to call off the shearing before she had a sinead o'connor hairdo. She loves it short. I think it looks fabulous and it is sooo easy to care for. She does get confused for a boy A LOT - but doesn't seem to care at all. Recently she has taken to saying "I am a girl and girls can have short hair too." At least she isn't trying to look like David Bowie!!

flower power

Olive is sooo excited that she was invited to be a flower girl in my cousin ethan's wedding to manuela. She is so excited even though it involves wearing a dress! Olive is more comfortable calling it a gown. Here are some before and after shots.

We have been talking about how important being flower girl is and what exactly she will do. When I first told her that she will walk down the asile, she excitedly asked, "And then I will get to kiss ethan?" Now, when she tells people about walking down the aisle and all that is involved in her very important job as flower girl, she always adds knowingly "But then I won't really marry ethan, Manuela will, and she will kiss him."

bowie babe

Olive has a new fascination - david bowie.

Today we were in line at a crowded bookstore and Olive took a picture book off a shelf and said loudly, "Mom, is this a David Bowie book?"

say ahhh

Olive recently had her first visit to the Dentist. She was curious, confident and brave.

Before the visit was finished, Olive had examined the dentist's teeth and skillfully operated the water and suction tools!

The future is so bright - you better wear shades!!

flower power

Tonight Olive learned that her cousin Ethan asked her to be a flower girl in his upcoming wedding to Manuela. When I explained to Olive what an important job flower girl is and that she will walk down the aisle with flowers before Manuela - she seemed very proud and excitedly asked: "And then will I get to kiss him?" Watch out Ethan - (or maybe I should say watch out Manuela!!)

family vacation

Summer is racing by. Since the last time I wrote Olive went to see Bob Dylan, went to the dentist, went to Lake Carey where she visted and played with her Nanna Barb and Granpa Paul, many aunts and uncles and 13 cousins and sort-of cousins (David and Kevin Hanley, Nick, Jack and Annie Thakar, Meg, Pamela, Katie and Nellie Beane-Fox, Cooper and Gabby Flinn-Beane, Tessa and Jacob Moul), had smores, went fishing, played with worms, made a tie dye shirt, ate lots of corn on the cob, went to Nonna and Pop's house, saw more aunts and uncles and 5 more cousins (Madeleine, Mackenzie, Isaac, Ethan and Faith), went to a fair, rode lots of rides and sat in the car for many many hours.

Here is a glimpse of all her fun:

Olive and Tessa had endless fun with some very playful worms.

Olive, Tessa and Jacob enjoyed a miraculously struggle-free week together. These pictures just begin to capture the love...

Olive with her special cousin-friends, Cooper (in the background), Nellie and Katie.

Here is the newest member of the family, Gabriella, with her Dad Lewis.

Big family meals and lots of swimming - that's life at Lake Carey!

Cousin Annie waiting for a bite (and wearing a halter top that Nanna Barb made for Annie's mother sometime in the 1960's!!).

Looks like Olive has inherited her Mother's thrill-seeking genes. I can't wait until she is 45" tall so we can go on the BIG rides together.
